Dear members and guests,
I have received several questions over the new House Bill for the state of
Michigan that will change the smoking policy for food establishments. Here
are some quick answers.
Yes we will be effected by this new law. It is for any business with at
least one employee, and any business that serves food. (Of course we have
both.)
There is some debate as to what options smokers will have. I have heard
about the cigar bars and separate rooms for smokers. This is not an option
for us since 10 percent of your sales must be cigars.
I have heard the rumor that you can smoke outside of the building, or 10
feet from the building, or 50 feet from the building. I have also been told
that you cannot smoke on the premises.
Again these are ALL RUMORS. I am waiting for the final law to be written,
and I am sure these options will change over the next 5 months.
But as it stands, the Grand Rapids/Sparta Moose Lodge will be non-smoking as
of May 1st, 2010. We are looking at every avenue for our members and guests
that do smoke, and will take every effort to make them as comfortable at the
lodge as we can.
Some things that are being talked about are turning the Tiki Bar into a 3
season room and many other ideas are swirling. So please be patient. I
have already been asked to accept donations towards retrofitting the tiki
bar, or towards adding a shelter on the patio.
Most importantly, the board is working towards making the social quarters a
place for families and friends to stop in and enjoy some food and beverage,
and of course each other's company.
Thanks for your time, and what you do for our order.
